چکیده

Hydrogen peroxide, Ethylene glycol, Citric acid, Stability, Copper, Ergun’s test Abstract: Owing to its high oxidising power and environmentally friendly nature, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is commonly used in environmental and hydrometallurgical applications such as treatment of cyanidation effluents and leaching of metals from ores/concentrates/waste materials. However, H2O2 rapidly undergoes catalytic decomposition particularly in the presence of metal ions such as copper. The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of certain additives on the improvement of stability of H2O2. The influence of addition of ethylene glycol (2.5-20 mL/L) and citric acid (4.8-80 mM) on the stability of H2O2 in the absence/presence of copper was tested. The time-dependent data were statistically analysed using Ergun’s test. No effect of ethylene glycol was observed on the stability of H2O2 in the absence of Cu while a substantial improvement (up to 33%) was noted in its presence. The addition of citric acid in the presence of copper negatively influenced the stability of H2O2.

Stabilization of Catalase in the Presence of Additives

abstract The stability of catalase in the reaction of hydrogen peroxide decomposition was studied in the presence of some potential stabilizers: ethylene glycol, glycerol, fructose, sucrose, fucose, ribitol and 2 nitro phenyl-#-D-galacto-pyranosid (niphegal). The sucrose, ethylene glycol and glycerol showed the best performance for long-term storage at 30°C. The stability of catalase increases ...

A Study of Hydrogen Peroxide Concentration Changes in Organs of Rats Protractedly Intoxicated with Ethanol, Metanol, and Ethylene Glycol

The results of research carried out on rats, assessing the influence of chronic intoxication with ethanol, methanol, and ethylene glycol on hydrogen peroxide concentration in internal organs – brain, lungs, liver, kidney, and heart – are presented in this paper. It was shown that the organ most exposed to the detrimental activity of ethanol, methanol, and ethylene glycol is the heart: the great...

Developing of Ethylene Glycol as a New Reducing Agent for Preparation of Pd-Ag/PSS Composite Membrane for Hydrogen Separation

In the present work, for the first time, a palladium-silver membrane has been prepared by electroless plating on the surface of a porous stainless steel disk by using ethylene glycol as a new reducing agent and polyol process. The reducing action of ethylene-glycol in the presence of PVP as a protecting surface agent produces a membrane with finely divided powder and nano-sized pores. Furthermo...

Investigation into the effect of UV/Ozone Irradiation on the dyeing ‎behaviour of Poly(lactic acid) and Poly(ethylene terephthalate) ‎Substrates

The effect of UV/Ozone irradiation together with the pretreatments using distilled water, hydrogen peroxide, and hydrogen peroxide/sodium silicate solutions on the dyeing depth of the poly(lactic acid), PLA, and poly(ethylene terephthalate), PET, fabrics by the application of disperse dyes were investigated and the results were compared with that of untreated fabrics. The results showed that th...

Oxidative degradation of oligo(ethylene glycol)-terminated monolayers.

The observation that oligo(ethylene glycol) (OEG)-terminated monolayers remained highly protein-resistant for a month at 37 degrees C in PBS buffer while they degraded faster in air can be rationalized by a proposed mechanism formulated from a model study using the first internal hydroperoxide of OEG.
